Biography
Born in the Republic of Georgia in 1965, Eka earned a graduate degree in Illustration and Printmaking, and postgraduate degree with an emphasis on pedagogy in preparation for teaching, from the Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts. Soon after graduation from the Academy she became the Original Designer and Layout Artist for the newly established newspaper Rezonanci in Tbilisi, Georgia. At the same time, she was commissioned to illustrate and design several books published in Georgia.
In 1994, Eka immigrated to the USA with her family. Since then, she has continued her career as an artist and educator and has taught painting, illustration and drawing in several U.S. universities while continuing to create and share her own works.
Eka designed and illustrated the section of Georgian calligraphy in The World Encyclopedia of Calligraphy, New York, and several Georgian language textbooks at George Mason University.
Eka has exhibited and participated in national and international exhibits, competitions, art shows, and symposia in Georgia, Great Britain, USA, the Netherlands, Greece, Russia and Turkey. Her works, which are primarily oil painting, lithography, and monoprint are held in several museums and private collections. She teaches painting and drawing at Boston University in Boston. In addition, Eka works as an Associate Designer and Assistant Technical Director at ArtBarn Community Theater.
