Biography
Born in the Republic of Georgia in 1960, Batu earned a graduate degree in sculpture from the Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts and an advance postgraduate degree from the All-Union Academy in Moscow. Since then, he has had a distinguished artistic career in Europe, Asia, and the United States.
In 1994 Batu was granted a green card in the United States as an artist of “extraordinary ability.” Since then, he has become a full citizen and has continued his career as an artist and educator, teaching sculpture and drawing in several U.S. universities while continuing to create and share his own works.
Batu has exhibited and participated in national and international, sculpture exhibits, competitions, art shows, and symposia in Georgia, the USA, Great Britain, China, India, Turkey, Russia, Spain and Portugal. His works, which are primarily in marble, granite, bronze, and fired clay are held in museums, private collections, and outdoor permanent displays around the world. Batu lives with his wife and two children in Newton, MA, USA. He is a professor and Head of Sculpture at Boston University in Boston.
