Biography

Tolia Astali (Astakhishvili) was born in 1974 in Georgia. Currently she lives and works in Berlin, Germany. Tolia studied at Tbilisi State Academy of Art, she prepared her diploma in Mainz, Germany, then she stayed in London for a year, where she got the master degree at Chelsea College of Arts. In London, she has met Dylan Pearce. Later Tolia taught at the Mainz Academy of Arts, thus the couple had to stay in Germany. Since then they work together as a creative couple. Their art is presented on different solo and group exhibitions in many cities of the world. Tolia and Dylan mainly work with installations and assemblages. In Dylan Pierce’s and Tolia Astali’s art the serial aesthetics of industrial materials, the chemical process of photo transformation, often anonymous photography expresses synthetic, artificial reality, where objects change their original meaning and they gain new connotations.
