Biography
Gocha Chkadua was born in Tbilisi, Georgia. He lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
After finishing high school Gocha went to study at the Medical School in Vladivostok, Russia, there he decided to pursue his childhood obsession-- design. He dropped out of Medical school to study Art and Design at Tbilisi State Academy of Art. After finishing Art academy in 1996, he emigrated to USA.
Gocha’s very first design Magnet Pipe was reviewed in I.D. International Magazine ( April, 2000), LODOWN Germany; BIOND, New Lifestyle Magazine, (June,2000) Germany and Spectator, Japan.
For over 10 years Gocha has invented various prototypes, including designs of household items employing powerful magnets.
In 2010, in collaboration with his sister - the artist Eteri Chkadua, Gocha launched toy-dart-jewelry- interior decoration LuvBomb. Luvbomb was designed to symbolize peace, in midst of the ongoing clashes between different political parties in Georgia. For images please visit www.luvbomb.net
Since 2011, in collaboration with Eteri he has been devoted to creation of art installations, hand crafted from discarded wooden objects and disposable plastic containers. These Installations have been displayed in various exhibitions, including Karvasla, National Museum of Art and Museum of Literature in Tbilisi, Georgia; OPEN 18 in Venice, Italy: Longhouse Reserve in East Hampton NY; Southampton Art Center NY and Shirley Fiterman Art Center, NYC.
Gocha's installations have triggered conversations about recycling.
