Biography

Soso Dumbdze was born in 1981 in Georgia. He currently lives in Cologne and works in Cologne and Tbilisi. In 1998-2002 he studied tele-cinema directing at Tbilisi State University. In 2004, he studied in Academy of Media Arts Cologne (diploma 2011). He is the recipient of the Friedrich-Ebert Foundation scholarship. He has exhibited his works in The Art and Exhibition Hall of the Federal Republic of Germany (e.i. Bundeskunsthalle), Art Cologne, New Talents – Biennale, Haus am Lützowplatz Berlin, etc. The City collection of Cologne under the curatorship of Barbara Engelbach acquired his video installation The Parallel on One War (2012) from the Ludwig Museum. The magazine Frieze and newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung have reviewed Soso’s video installation Yellow Bus (2017). Soso Dumbadze’s art unites multichannel videos into media works created in so called Found Footage montage technique which address pressing social and political issues. His documentary approach engages different socio-political layers, combining them to create several dimensions of interpretation.
